News Release: US Senator Martin Heinrich Visits CAFB Youth Annex

CLOVIS— U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) traveled to Eastern New Mexico late last week to visit small businesses, colleges and Cannon Air Force Base (CAFB). One of his stops included the Youth Annex Center, currently under construction at CAFB by GranCor Enterprises.

"It is important for leading dignitaries to see the positive impact they have on rural New Mexico," said Monte Graham, senior site supervisor for GranCor Enterprises.

The CAFB Youth Annex Center project began the early stages of conception in 2012 because the existing youth center is not large enough [12,000 square-foot] to accommodate the volume of occupants and mixed-use needs. Construction on the new 18,000 square-foot Youth Annex Center began in February 2015. The architectural design encompasses staff and administrative offices, a meeting room, a multi-purpose room and several activity rooms encouraging hands-on learning and life-skill development for pre-teens.

"We are pleased to assist Cannon Air Force Base with creating a common center dedicated to learning and skill-development opportunities for the families and youth in the area," said Graham.

As a result of this project, GranCor Enterprises has worked to employ vendors, subcontractors, and local laborers from Curry and Roosevelt counties. The Youth Center Annex project has created nearly 100 jobs with 75 percent of the talent pool coming from the local area. The project is scheduled for completion by June 24.
